Barn Shed Roof with 24

Barn Shed Roof with 24" On Center Trusses

Do you know what the spacing is on shed trusses? I was told it was 24 inches. Please let me know, if you have time. I'm located in Michigan if that helps. Thanks again, Steve

Shed Roof Truss spacing
by: John

Hi Steve,

This is a great question! Typically shed roof framing is 24" on center. This is true for residential framing also.

I always believe that going or doing a little extra if it is going to improve things, then I will generally do it. So if you want to space your trusses 16" on center that is perfectly fine. It would offer more support for your roof sheeting.

Quite often I see sheds where the roof seems to be dipping in between the trusses so going with the 16" on center framing is a great idea. Especially living up in Michigan I am sure you get a lot of snow.

Another few things you should do is after you have your roof framed in, you should lay down 15# roofing paper or tar paper, then also add drip edge. Although this may seem overkill, it is very beneficial for the extended life of your shed. Rainwater and melting snow can deteriorate a shed roof if it doesn't have tar paper and drip edge.

Hope this helps to answer your question about shed trusses and thank you for visiting my site.

By the way, most if not all of my shed plans show roof framing with 24" on center trusses.
