Shed foundation
by Steve

I have been re roofing my shed with shingles. I also plan to cover the walls with siding, HOWEVER I have noticed that the shed foundation sill joists are starting to rot on one side of the shed. It appears the foundation was simply 4 concrete blocks set in dirt or maybe gravel. They have sunk & the shed is now almost resting on the dirt. I have lifted the shed up an inch or two to get it off the ground but I fear the support at the 4 corners will be not sufficient to bear the load for long. What can I do to rectify the rotted joists & correct the foundation?
Johns Answer:
Hi Steve,
If possible, I would try to support the roof trusses with a temporary wall, then cut away the wall studs where they meet into the sill plate. Remove any nails also that are attaching the sill plate to the foundation and then try to slip in a new sill plate and re-attach the wall studs to the new sill plates.
Hope this helps you.
John
