Shed Floor replacement

by Ken
(Miami, Fl)

I have an old 8 x 10 barn style Teds Shed with a worn out floor, a little rot ,a little termite damage. It has approximitely 1 x 1 aluminum wall framework and aluminum sides and roof.Due to the high cost of replacing this shed I would like to replace the entire floor structure. I am sure I can do this on my own, but I was wondering what your recommendations would be on this project. Thanks Ken

John's Answer:

Hi Ken,

If you can, totally dismantle the shed, then I would remove the old foundation and build a new one totally out of treated lumber.

The exact dimensions of the perimeter of the shed would equal the dimensions of the floor if you are going to sheet the floor with treated plywood. You can make the floor bigger so that the outside edges extend somewhat beyond the shed walls if you plank the floor joists with 2x4's or 5/4" treated 1x6's. This method of building the floor would allow rain water to fall through the floor and not puddle as it would if you were planking the floor with treated plywood.

Hope this helps you.
John
