how to build a shed

Modify plans for HOA restrictions

by David
(Keller, TX)

I live in a neighborhood controlled by an HOA with height restrictions on sheds. My shed needs to fit below the top of the privacy fence.

Do you have modified versions of the gable design with a lower roof pitch to allow for reasonable side wall height?

What would be a minimum roof pitch that could be supported by the truss design for a southern location (North Texas)? Assuming a width of either 8 or 10 feet.

Johns Answer:

Hi David,

Wow, I am assuming your privacy fence is only 6'? You didn't mention this, but I do not have any shed plans that are only 6' tall.

Also, the minimum roof pitch on a shed roof if you use shingles is 3/12. Anything less than this would have to be a rubber membrane or metal roof.

I have seen gambrel style roof sheds with side walls of 3 to 4 feet that are only 7' tall, but nothing in the gable style roof.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

John
