Insulating My Shed Floor?
by Mac
(Canada)
I would like to insulate the floor of a shed I am about to build (it gets real cold in Canada!) How do I go about it?

John's Answer:
Hi Mac,
First off, I would definitely insulate the floor right after you have your floor frame built, and you can either insulate with a batt type of insulation or more preferably with rigid styrofoam
cut to fit exactly between your floor joists. You could even double up on the styrofoam as it is usually only 1.5" thick. Probably a good idea to use some construction adhesive on the sides of your floor joists to hold the styrofoam in place.
Make sure you put a vapor barrier on top of this such as a layer of 4 mill plastic, then plank your floor with what ever you plan on using.
If you use batt insulation, buy the kind that has no vapor barrier. Then after you get it installed, cover it as you would have in the above example.
Good luck,
john
