Insulating a Shed Floor

I am planning tp build a 12"x20 shed to be used as a workshop and will need to heat it in the winter.
Ground clearance will be between 6" to 12" maximum. Going underneath is not an option.
I am good with everything except that the challenge for me is 1)how to install the insulation and 2) to keep the critters from moving in.
Spray foam would work best as animals will not touch it but access and economics prevent this option.
Suggestions appreciated.

Foam Board Insulation

Hi Gary,

The best way to insulate a shed floor that I have found is to use foam board readily found in Lowes or Home Depot.

The picture with this post shows this type of foam board.

It is already pre-scored so you can snap it to 16" or 24" widths. If you need 12" you will probably have to score the material with a utility knife and snap it.

Once you have your floor framed but not sheeted, you can use as many layers of this foam board in between your floor joists as you can fit in the shed floor cavities.

I would recommend using a construction adhesive along the edges after installing so that the board doesn't slip out on its own.

The r-rating on this foam board is not really that high but I beleive this is the best method as it will not retain water like batt insulation would.

After you have your foam board in place you would be ready to sheet the floor.
