how to build a shed

Wooden sheds have so much character

And wooden sheds are FUN to build too.

There are basically 3 styles of wooden sheds you can build.  The barn or gambrel shed style.  The gable style shed.  And the third style is the saltbox shed.

The most common and popular style shed is the barn style.  It offers the most storage and versatility of any style shed you could build.  Because of the nature of the roof trusses, this barn will provide lots of storage space up above your sheds main floor.  Its building difficulty I would say is medium.

The easiest style of shed to build is the gable style shed.  This shed offers some storage in the ceiling area but not as much as the barn style shed.  If you are looking for a quick shed to build with easy building difficulty, then the gable style is for you.

One of my favorite style sheds and perhaps the most difficult to build is the saltbox shed. This shed offers probably the most character I think of any style shed.  The roof truss system provides for some storage space up in the ceiling as the gable style does, but here again, not much storage space up above. There is a little more detail involved in building the roof overhang but overall, this will be a fun shed to build.  Check out my plans for a neat saltbox shed if you are up to the challenge.
